Hi! Sorry we haven’t posted anything for a while, but Emily has been unwell, even more than usual. The epilepsy is a constant worry, in which there have been many accidents, but the non-epileptic disorder is a law unto itself. It is hard, really hard, but we are determined to eat as healthy as we can and make a difference to the animals on this beautiful planet. Despite our ever increasing challenges, it hasn’t stopped us experimenting in the kitchen with healthy recipes. Believe me, it is fun and games in the kitchen, with Emily falling about having seizures, especially when holding chopping knives. With that and my clumsiness in the kitchen, we are more like a comedy act, but we are fighting on! We are far from perfect and polished, like some food bloggers you may come across. We are real, authentic, a bit crazy (in the best sense) and hope we can make a difference to our own lives and help others learn from what we have discovered. We are looking for answers in natural whole foods and our research continues.
We wanted to share this tasty and healthy smoothie with you. Interestingly, I read yesterday that Britons throw away 1.4 m edible bananas every day! Hard to believe, isn’t it? This bothers me, and I hope it does you too! Confession time- I used to throw bananas away if I thought they were past their best. Until I realised that if I thought ahead of time, I could slice it up and put it in a bag and put it in the freezer. Frozen banana is a perfect ingredient for smoothies and dairy free ice creams. We use frozen banana nearly every day.
So be like us, and don’t throw your bananas away and make something useful, tasty and healthy out of them. Our recipe uses frozen banana, but you could use fresh. This recipe is particularly nice on a morning, and is so filling, it keeps us going until lunch time. Don’t worry if you haven’t got all the ingredients, such as the seeds, as they are there to add extra nutrition. The most important ingredients are the cherries, banana, plant milk and cacao. The cinnamon, almond butter and dates improve the taste. The recipe is as simple as you want it to be.
Never heard of flaxseeds or chia seeds? Look them up online and discover how amazing they are to our bodies. Maybe when you can, invest in buying some. It’s not much different to a cup or two of Starbucks coffee and will benefit you more and for longer.
We hope you have enjoyed this post and if you decide to try this recipe, please do let us know how you get on, as we love to receive feedback.
